Untitled Document Ecchi came from the letter H, which to the Japanese is like the letter X to westerners, as in X rated. H=Hentai, and Ecchi= mildly Hentai. Ecchi means erotic, but not pornographic. For example whereas a Hentai image would be really something like Hustler (really graphic), an Ecchi one would be Playboy, more "artsy."
